Encrypt Your Data Effectively Using FreeOTFE

FreeOTFE - icon Inherit effective and powerful encryption from TrueCrypt, FreeOTFE brings you simple and handy features to encrypt your data. You can encrypt and password protect your data to a file which is easily transferred to and used on another computer. The encrypted data will then be mapped to a disk so you can do everything as usual like on a real disk. In this post, I will show you how to make a new encryption and how to mapped an encrypted file.

To add a new encryption, click on the New button on the toolbar.
Step 1: Click Next on the first windows of wizard.

Step 2: choose Volume file in the File or Partition/Entire Disk options.

Step 3: click on Browse button, then choose the location and name the file you want to store private data.

Step 4: set the size of your file.

Step 5: choose the algorithm which will be used to encrypt your data. Keep the default options if you’re a novice user with secure algorithms.

Step 6: choose the way to generate random number. You may choose Microsoft CryptoAPI which will do silently and quickly while with Mouse movement, you must move your mouse randomly to generate and it takes time.

Step 7: Fill in passwords

Step 8: Click on Finish button. Remember to check Mount volume after creation.

Then you wait a few seconds while FreeOTFE create your volume.
Finally, you must format the new volume in order to use it as a virtual disk.

You may see a new drive in your My computer.

To mount a encrypted file, you simply open that file and fill the right password.

To dismount, just right click on the drive and choose Dismount
