barriers to make it easy to learn more about the world such as the
distance barrier, the time barrier. Just with some clicks, Internet
brings you the whole world to your computer. Recently, with the
development of technology, another barrier has been broken down: the
language barrier. Now, you can discover many interesting and fantastic
things of a foreign culture right in your own language. These are three
applications which may help you much.
Translate
Google Translate
may be the biggest guy in the Translator market powered by Google, the king of
search engines. Google
Translate supports nearly 40 different languages and the
list is day by day lengthened. The usage is quite easy, just enter text
into the textbox, and then select the source and destination language.
Finally, click on the button Translate.
The translate process is pretty fast or even you can say “immediately”. The
result will be shown in the right panel. The quality is quite
acceptable. It seems to be cool when translating technical text while
others are awful.
Nice
Translator
Nice
Translator uses the Google Translate API,
so that the supported languages, the quality and the result are the
same. However, like the name says, Nice
Translator has a nicer interface which you may find it
handy and convenient. Just enter text into the textbox above, and then
select the source language. You can leave it “auto-detect”
but it is better to choose a language. Next, click on the drop list add/remove and
choose languages you want to translate to. The result will be shown in
different languages below.
Fried
Babel Fish
Fried
Babel Fish is a desktop application for Windows.
The name does not associate with Babel Fish, a famous web-based
translator. It uses Google
Translate API and is like Nice Translator, the
result is completely similar to what Google Translate does. The
advantage of Fried Babel
Fish is that you don’t have to open a browser in order to
translate a text, but you just only translate up to 150 words a time
using this application.
Yahoo
Babel Fish
Yahoo
Babel Fish may be an older tool than others.
However, it is last item in this list because of the lack of languages
to translate, the slow speed, difficult to use interface and the limit
of words for a translation (just up to 150 words). However, you should
also try Babel Fish
and others especially for non-technology text to get the best result.
Not all of these translators make a best result, but it is really
helpful to make it easy to learn more about the world in your own
language.
